Uzoamaka Nwachukwu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at Indiana University Bloomington. Her research interest in on 20th and 21st century Africa History, Colonial Nigeria, Decolonialization, Abolition, Taxation, Gender, Environmental History, Social justice, and Indigenous knowledge in Southeastern Nigeria. Uzoamaka’s work explores the long-term impacts of colonial and post-colonial mining practices, focusing on themes such as forced labor, ecological violence, post-mining landscapes, and the role of local communities in mitigating environmental degradation. She has a strong interdisciplinary approach, utilizing social cartography, archival research, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map out the cultural and material legacies of extractive industries.

Uzoamaka holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from the University of Ibadan and has received numerous prestigious fellowships and grants, including the Roy Sieber African Studies Conference Travel Fellowship, the Robert H. Ferrell & Eric Sandweiss Fellowship, and the CRRES Graduate Student Research Grant. She has presented research papers at several prominent international conferences, including the African Studies Association and the International Conference on Slavery and Post-Slavery.
